Today I am going to tell you about the history of classic rock. It all started with the band named The Beatles in the 60s, but in the year 1967 The Beatles started to get more famous. Their first album was created in the year 1965. The Beatles come from Liverpool in England UK. There were pop rock and the style that they played started with the band in the 60s and ended in the 70s. In the years 60s, 70s, and 80s, the most popular classic rock of all times started. After it came the band Nirvana and it was the new hit for the people and for classic rock. http://www.rockmusictimeline.com/1980s.html http://www.thebeatles.com/ REFLECTION: Some of my reflections are that it was hard for me to do this project, but I liked it because I learned more about some bands that I love and the history of the music that I love. Also, it explains the different years of rock and the styles that they had and they have today too. Furthermore, it is important for society because around the 60s through the 80s the rock was one of the most hearing music’s at that time. Another thing is that my searching was at the beginning hard to find but after I found more and more about the history of rock and where it started and who were one of the first bands in rock history. I also discovered what was the purpose to make that style of music. Continuing, I searched webs that were the timeline in rock and history about it. To go more deeply on this situation I will tell you how most rock groups got famous and they are known even today. So they got famous because they started playing their songs on restaurants, radio stations, so in this way it influenced music in history and they became famous and I think this is awesome because it shows you how you can start with a little step and then get farther more in life.

Hi! My name is Sarah Ketchum, and I am the high school social studies teacher at Highlands! While my main role is to teach social studies classes, I also teach a typing class twice a week with 11th and 12th grade students. As upperclassmen, many of these students have great ideas for how to improve the school and leave a legacy for future generations of Highlands’ students. So, we decided to turn our typing class into Genius Hour!
For those of you who don’t know, “Genius Hour,” or “20% Time,” was originally an idea from Google. The company encouraged their employees to spend 20% of their time working on a “Passion Project;” something that they were interested in that may not necessarily be a normal part of their day-to-day responsibilities. Many schools are adopting this idea as a way to get students to take ownership of their own learning, allow them to work on something they really care about, and show them that their ideas and work can pay off in real-life ways. The whole point is to have students take control and really guide their own learning. While this can be a bit of a bumpy process, my students so far have really seemed to get excited about the opportunity to choose and control their own projects and research. The ideas that they have come up with for school improvement are really impressive as well! We started by simply brainstorming together as a class. Then, students narrowed down their inquiry questions and topics for their projects and pitched them to the class on mini-posters. Using sticky notes, students gave each other feedback on their project ideas. Finally, students, either individually or in small groups, chose projects and began researching. This blog is a way for my students to share their progress with each other, and more importantly, with others around the world so that their projects will not only positively impact Highlands International School but can also help other schools implement similar ideas. Stay tuned to see what becomes of our Genius Hour projects! |
